1850 Hartford and New Haven Railroad Payment Receipt M. L. Sikes Jr. $2,200 #222. Condition: Excellent; clean paper with crisp printed borders and strong handwritten ink. Original printed receipt issued by the Hartford and New Haven Railroad Company, dated July 6, 1850, and signed by M. L. Sikes Jr. This financial document acknowledges the payment of $2,200.00, written out as “Twenty Two Hundred Dollars,” for company disbursements. Printed on early cream paper with a bold left-side ornamental border, the form includes shaded boxes for both the amount and receipt number (No. 222) and is completed in brown ink with elegant mid-19th-century handwriting. The typography clearly identifies the Hartford & New Haven Railroad Company, one of Connecticut’s earliest major rail lines. The reverse contains a brief manuscript notation repeating the date, name, and amount — a standard record-keeping practice for internal accounting.
