The Story of Rockefeller Center. (New York): Rockefeller Center, Inc., 1939. Tall slim quarto, original staple-stitched photographic wrappers; pp. (24). Original souvenir for one of New York’s great monuments of architecture, with photographs on every page, many by Margaret Bourke-White. An “Art Deco architectural marvel,” Rockefeller Center consists of 19 commercial buildings covering 11 acres in midtown Manhattan. Construction began in 1931 and the last unit (offices of the National Cash Register Company) was completed in 1940. This 1939 souvenir booklet calls the Center “the most interesting place in this amazing metropolis… the business and entertainment center of America… a gleaming monument to American foresight and architectural genius.” Bourke-White’s photographs are not identified, but she is listed first in the credits. Text and images fresh and clean, very lightest edge-toning to wrappers. A scarce about-fine copy.
