1917-18 1937-38 Handwritten Diaries Pennsylvania Chiropractor Christian Science. In the early diary he was studying and practicing as a chiropractor. He also wrote about “Dora” whom he calls “My Love”, traveling, Christian Science and studying it, a big trip to Chicago, baseball, concerts, tennis and much more. WELCOME TO SALLY’S DIARIES: Before I get started describing this piece, I want to let you know that I have a podcast. I’ve taken some diaries from my private collection and shared them on our podcast called “Diary Discoveries.” We’ve got 66 episodes out now and you can find it on all the usual podcast venues. So if you enjoy the compelling and adventurous stories from vintage diaries then please check it out. Plus, I was asked to do a TEDx talk in Vienna about this very thing, collecting diaries, and if you are interested in this sort of thing just put into the search engines “10,000 diaries” and you should come up with it. It was a privileged and blessing to be able to share what I’ve learned in the last 36 years. And with all that said…. Up for auction are two handwritten diaries with extensive entries, 392 pages of writing to be exact. As you can see they are in poor shape as far as having no covers and the first and last pages have some damage. In fact the first 10 pages of the first diary have some tears, after than they look good. So the photos you see above of the damage is only on the first couple of pages and the last couple of pages. I’d say 370 pages are in good shape. The first diary dates from March 6th, 1917 to June 17th, 1918 with every day having a handwritten entry. The second diary dates from March 14th, 1937 to May 7th, 1938, again, everyday has a handwritten entry. They belonged to the same man but I don’t know his name. I can tell you a few things about him and the area he lived in. In the early diary he was studying and practicing as a chiropractor. He also wrote about “Dora” whom he calls “My Love”, traveling, Christian Science and studying it, a big trip to Chicago, baseball, concerts, tennis and much more. The places mentioned are: Phoenixville, Valley Forge Park, Colleyville, Whitehall Road, Germantown Pike and more. Many of which are in Pennsylvania. These are large diaries too as each of them measures about 5” x 7 1/2”. Great diaries that have a lot (tons) of information ready to be discovered. Again, they need archival repair so this is a buy as is auction, no returns.
