It is powered by a quad core Atom C3558 CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz and it comes with 8GB of DDR4 RAM and a 128GB SSD. It has six Gigabit Ethernet ports and two 10Gb SFP+ ports. As far as configuration, you can choose between Switch or Router. Switch configuration In switch configuration all the ports, with the exception of port GE6 (WAN), are bridged together to function as LAN ports of the same network. In this way you can connect your PC, printer, access point, etc, and be able to inter-communicate as well as share the Internet (connected on port GE6 - yellow cable in pictures). For a small home or office network this is probably the preferred choice. The CPU of this device can handle up to 10 Gbs of traffic in one direction (5 Gbs when routing between hosts, since it has to receive and send at the same time). Router configuration In this configuration only ports GE6 (WAN) and GE1 (LAN - blue cable in pictures) are configured. In this setup you would normally connect the LAN port to an external switch, which in turn provides communication between its connected devices. This scales better if you want to connect more devices than the available ports of this system and also provides better performance, since the processing cost of forwarding local traffic is taken care by the switch. In both cases the pfSense configuration page can be accessed at 192.168.10.1, credentials are admin/Passw0rd. In case you need console access* baud rate is set at 115200.
