Information at the back of the catalog states that he lived on the 430 acres settled by his great-great grandparents a hundred years earlier “when Kentucky was a howling wilderness.”. J. F. Neat catalog 5.5” X 7.5” with red (faded) paper wrappers with an image of a turkey on the front. Inside, there are 8 unnumbered pages printed on nice white paper stock. Barbee (1862-????) was a well-known breeder of poultry, mastiffs, horses, and most famously, his development of the famed “Bourbon Red” turkey breed named after the county he lived in, a breed still in existence today. Excellent detail about his various animal offerings with woodcuts, descriptions, testimonials, etc. Accompanying the catalog are 2 small promotionals and a mailing envelope. Information at the back of the catalog states that he lived on the 430 acres settled by his great-great grandparents a hundred years earlier “when Kentucky was a howling wilderness.” Covers show wear and the fading common to that red dye of the period, still good+ condition.
