Originally issued by Tucker in 1831-2, this is the second edition with the second volume having been issued in 1837 (not present, here). Tucker was a notable Virginia figure: a U.S. Representative, VA Senator, and judge in turn. He established the Winchester Law School in 1825 and taught until 1831. It was the largest in the commonwealth at the time, drawing students from Massachusetts to Louisiana. Tucker's Commentaries comprises a more formal presentation so his teaching notes and was a significant resource for members of the Virginia bar. It was printed three times over two decades.
