Description
The yellow Crouzet cards with 3-letter station codes are similar to those on the Métro de Paris, size approximately 65mm x 30mm. The system started with quite random 3-digit self-service machine numbers at all stations. More logical 4-digit machine numbers - two fixed digits for each station + two for each machine starting at 30 - appeared in the late 1980s; the station range went higher with new openings. Crouzet cards lost their magnetic stripes after barrier removal but were used from system opening until the machines were replaced; the first batch with credit card sized tickets was used for the South Hylton branch opening. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyne_and_Wear_Metro Long-retired private seller, net proceeds go to the considerable cost of acquiring these at the time from the stations or on journeys.
