K ISBN-13: 9783642660849, 978-3642660849 Synopsis after heated and often bitter debates, SIEBENMANN'S opinion finally prevailed, i. e. , a contribution to cochlear lesions due to vibrations of the floor transmitted via bone conduction could not be demonstrated. For one thing, it was hard to see how appreciable amounts of energy could reach the ears in this manner, considering the attenuation that is bound to occur across each of the many joints along the pathway involved. In some older audiological surveys conducted in industry (e. g. , TEMKIN, 1933), groups of workmen were found who displayed signs of apical-turn lesions, i. e. , low-tone hearing losses for air and for bone. Such lesions could not be expected to results from exposure to air-borne sounds because of the low-frequency attenu ation of the middle ear. Although WITTMAACK'S explanation, which was frequently invoked in such reports, does no longer appear tenable, such apical-turn lesions could conceivably be caused by bone conduction components of high-intensity noise in the sense of BEKESY [tel]. - As far as I am aware of, no newer studies have been conducted in this problem area, and the older experiments and/or surveys were done at times before signal parameters could be precisely controlled or measured. A detailed, critical review of the older studies on the potential contribution of bone-conducted energy to industrial hearing loss and its underlying pathology may be found in Werner [tel] who, incidently, favored SIEBENMANN'S point of VIew.
Don't be fooled by a rival company selling the same book cheaper. They will never deliver and fob you off with excuses for months! I am absolutely delighted with Books etc. I should have purchased from them first time around instead of being tempted by a slightly cheaper price! Book etc are my go to eBay store of choice for hard to get titles that I am looking for. They have never disappointed me. Every delivery is packaged safely. the descriptions are 100% accurate and i get my order in days.
Good seller, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ item as described, packaging average, delivery was a huge disappointment as it was thrown at my front door by an AMAZON driver. I purchased via eBay to avoid AMAZON, now they are involved leaving our eBay purchases on our doorsteps. I do have cctv of the driver throwing my package. I brought the poor delivery to the attention of the seller who advised they would contact the delivery organisation concerned about the breach in their delivery instructions.
I purchased this item as a novelty birthday gift. Item arrived in a cardboard envelope which I was able to recycle. Item is as expected, small book which was described as new. That is what I received. Tracking was provided and item arrived day earlier than expected. However, item was not posted as soon as payment was received, so check items for due delivery if you want an item quickly. Communication excellent. Would buy from this seller again.
