Old Mauchline Transfer Ware Money Box Coin Bank, Burns’ Monument, Alloway, South Ayrshire, Scotland Definitely old, probably antique, Mauchline Ware wooden money box or coin bank with a transfer image of Burns’ Monument in black on top. Coin slot on the front panel of the box; solid panel on the rear and left side. There is a small ”hidden” (trap door disguised to look like part of the box) section on the lower right side that is hinged to swing outward to access the riches inside. Well-worn and faded paper covered bottom with no longer legible printing. Measures 3-1/2” (8.9cm) long side to side by 2-1/2” (6.4 cm) front to back by 2” (5.1 cm) top to bottom. Condition: USED, overall very good condition with wear consistent with the age and likely use by young people. The hinged trap door stays shut when the box is empty and easily swings out but is too loose to stay closed with coins pushing from inside. The finish is original and shows age “checkering” or crazing. No cracks, no repairs. The transfer print of Burns’ Monument is sharp with one very small chip in the foreground of the image (see photos). Weight: approx. 2.5 oz.
