O pré-tratamento da PALF foi efectuado para melhorar a adesão fibra-matriz e melhorar as propriedades mecânicas do bioplástico, particularmente a resistência à tração e ao impacto, bem como a durabilidade e a resistência à água. O bioplástico foi fabricado através do aquecimento de uma mistura de farinha de milho, vinagre, glicerol e água destilada a 80-90 °C durante 60 minutos com agitação contínua, seguido de moldagem e secagem a 70-80 °C durante 6-8 horas para obter uma película uniforme.
