Description
RARE CIVIL WAR WALTHAM, MODEL '62; 20s; 15j; OPEN FACE POCKET WATCH. Offered here is a RARE, very nice American Watch Co. (Waltham) Model '62; 20s; 15j; open face pocket watch. Movement is ¾ plate, 15 jewel Appleton Tracy grade, serial No100900 with a production date of May/June 1864. The largest size pocket watch made by American watch makers. Beautiful, pristine gilt finish movement, bright blued steel movement screws and expansion balance wheel; set & wound from the rear. Porcelain, enameled single sunk dial marked AMERICAN WATCH Co. in wonderful, nearly perfect condition with no chips or hairlines with black roman numeral hour markers and blued steel hands. Coin silver open face case is in excellent condition. Hinges are tight and covers open to 90 degrees & close properly. Crystal is good. Although the case appears and fits like an original, I cannot guarantee it. The case markings look to be an early “Fahys” symbol. The movement is in running condition, but only runs intermittently. Balance wheel has a full swing when it runs, but may only run for I min, sometimes 3 mins, 5 mins or 20 mins. No service history on this watch, so COA is probably in order to get a run ready movement. Included with the pocket watch is a hefty, 14”, coin silver, flat curved-link pocket watch chain. Some of the links have tiny hallmarks. Displays well with the larger size watch. Several pics are provided and considered part of the description. Here is an opportunity to own a very rare Waltham 20s pocket watch manufactured during the Civil War. Please pay within 5 days of auction end. See other listings. Thanks for looking.
