On auction, we have an etching by California artist Nicholas Dunphy (1899-1955). "...the Twain Shall Meet" is signed on the lower right in pencil and titled on the left. On thick textured paper, the etching is 13" X 11" including the margins. The back is stamped with the artist's name and studio address in San Francisco. About the artist: "Born in Seward, NE on July 4, 1896, the son of a U.S. senator. Dunphy moved to Campbell, CA in 1906 with his family. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Stanford University where he studied art under Henry Varnum Poor and Robert Harshe. He had further training at the CSFA in San Francisco where he later was secretary-treasurer for over 25 years. Most of his life was spent as a resident of San Carlos while maintaining a commercial art studio in San Francisco. He died in San Carlos on Jan. 24, 1955. Primarily an etcher, he also painted portraits and landscapes of the San Francisco Bay area." (Askart) I believe this is in excellent condition. The print is bold, clean and clear showing a deep imprint. There is a light shadow below the print, possibly from when it was once framed. There is tape at the top of the back. It has been handled and has some light wrinkles, but no creases. As I am not an expert on art, please see my photographs for more description. This is from my friend who collects everything and is starting to part with some of his treasures. I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping.
