On auction, we have an original etching by American artist Ernest Haskell (1876-1925). This is signed in the plate and pencil signed below the print. He also wrote "The Pine Arch the best proof of the small edition". And on the bottom right corner is, maybe "Jean" or "Loan" and an erased price of $250. Printed by the artist on light wove paper the etching measures 11 3/4" X 8 3/4" including the margins. About the artist: " Ernest Haskell was an American printmaker, illustrator and painter, born in Woodstock, Connecticut. A prolific artist, Haskell produced more than four hundred prints during his lifetime. Perhaps best known for his landscapes, his work was exhibited alongside the likes of John Marin and Max Weber at Alfred Stieglitz’s Gallery in New York in 1910 and was extensively exhibited throughout the nineteen-teens. Tragically, his life was cut short when he was killed in an automobile accident in November of 1925 while in Bath, Maine. Even after his death, Haskell's work continued to be shown in retrospective exhibitions around the country." (The Old Print Gallery) This is in excellent condition. The print is bold, clean and clear with a deep impression. We don't know if this is California, Maine or an imaginary coast. There is tape on the top of the back from when this was once in a matte. It has been handled and has a few light wrinkles. As I am not an expert on art, p lease view my photographs for more description. This is from my friend who is moving to a much smaller home and parting with some of his treasures. I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping.
