Octavo, two volumes, original publisher's 3/4leather with marbled boards with gilt titles on black morocco to the spine, illustrated with maps, diagrams, and numerous steel engravings of battle scenes from original designs by Darley, and other eminent artists, and portraits of distinguished men including tissue-guarded frontispieces of Lincoln and Grant. American historian and pastor John Stevens Cabot Abbott was a voluminous writer of books on Christian ethics, and of popular histories, which were credited with cultivating a popular interest in history. He is best known as the author of the widely popular History of Napoleon Bonaparte (1855), in which the various elements and episodes in Napoleon's career are described. Both volumes are complete and are in very good condition! The text in both volumes is in extremely good condition! The frontispiece (Lincoln) in Volume one has foxing in the margins and there is some minor foxing to some of the plates, mostly in the margins. The plates in Volume Two are very clean! As with all my Ebay auctions I am staring this rare book at $9.99 with NO RESERVE! I recently acquired a collection of antique books about the Civil War. Some were written during the war or shortly after and all date from the 19th century. All the books are completely original and in Very Good Condition!
