We will work with you! 2 Antique 19thC Italian Luigi Rossini Early Roman Architecture Copper Engravings …… We were recently consigned a collection of eleven original Copperplate Engravings by the Italian artist Luigi Rossini (1790-1857), a prominent Rome-based painter, engraver, and printmaker best known for his detailed renderings of ancient Roman architecture and archaeological ruins, often heavily influenced by the style of Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Rossini studied at the Academy of Bologna and became widely collected during the 19th century for his engravings documenting Italy’s Classical monuments in the Grand Tour tradition. ……We have divided this collection into several auctions, each listed separately and without reserve. These two engravings depict “Avanzi delle costruzioni della Villa di Marco Bruto Giurista a un miglio e mezza nella Via di Carciano a destra, Roma 1826” and “Sepolcro della famiglia Tossia, dal volgo il Tempio della Tosse vicino a Tivoli, Roma 1825.” Both engravings are executed with fine architectural linework and strong shadowing typical of Rossini’s work. Each sheet measures 29 3/8” by 21 1/4” (approximately 74.6 cm by 54 cm) and retains its full and untrimmed margins. The rough left-hand edges indicate they were once part of a bound portfolio. There is toning, edge wear, scattered foxing, and some losses and chipping along the outer margins, as you can see in our photographs.
