On auction, we have an original etching by American artist Gifford Beal (1879-1956). This is signed in pencil signed below the print. He inscribed it "To Bill & Isabel from your Dear Friend Gifford Beal". On the left, he also wrote what might be "imp 1". On laid paper the etching measures 10" X 18" including the margins. In it's protective matte, it is 15" X 22". It is taped at the top, not glued down. About the artist: "Gifford Beal was an American printmaker, painter and muralist, born in Bronx, New York. He was the younger brother of artist Reynolds Beal. He took summer classes with impressionist William Merritt Chase at the Shinnecock Hills Summer School of Art, and later studied at both Princeton University and the Art Students League of New York. Beal served as the League's president from 1914-1929. In 1908 he was elected an associate of the National Academy of Design, becoming a full member in 1914. He was also part of the American Watercolor Society, Century Association and the American Academy of Arts and Letters." (The Old Print Gallery) This is in excellent condition. The print is bold, clean and clear with a deep impression. I see a faint fingerprint on the top right corner. There is tape on the the back from when this was once in a different matte. As I am not an expert on art, p lease view my photographs for more description. This is from my friend who is moving to a much smaller home and parting with some of his treasures. I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping.
