IT by Stephen King (author of Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Stand, Pet Sematary, The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three etc.) Hardcover First Edition - First Printing New York, NY: Viking, 1986. Jacket illustration by Bob Guisti, one of the best King illustrations of all time. Issue points: Gray boards with black cloth spine, author, title publisher in red on the spine, "SK" in red on lower right-hand corner front board. Dark gray end-papers. Features a claw coming up in a drain with a paper boat. Dark gray end-papers. $22.95 cover price. No mention of later printings on the copyright page. To identify Viking first editions until circa 1989, the book would only indicate the copyright year without any mention of other printings, and/or a printing number-line. (Viking began using the printing number-line in 1989.) Near Fine+ in Fine Original Dust Jacket. The book itself is one of the better copies I've seen, relatively clean, crisp, and smart copy with some reading wear, mostly noticeable at the top of the text-block and a little bit of a concave to the spine which is common with this edition because of "its" chunky nature. Some wear to the boards. Hint of a crimp to lower right-hand front board. The jacket is nearly perfect with just hint of a crinkle to the top of the spine and a little bit of typical toning to the flaps but really nice, clean and intact. Priced to sell. NOTE: The first edition of "IT" was to the best of my knowledge the first supernatural-horror novel to be issued in about one million hardcover copies in four printings in 1986. No other supernatural horror novel had come close even including some of King's previous hardcover books. And maybe the longest horror novel ever published up until that time, clocking in at nearly 1200 pages. The story is about a demonic entity that manifests itself as a clown. The subtext is about childhood nightmares and fantasies. The story takes place in the fictional town of Derry, Maine. Derry would be referenced in other Stephen King books. "IT" won the British Fantasy Award for Best Novel in 1987, and was nominated for other awards such as the World Fantasy Award. NOTE: The pictures are of the actual item for sale. (The pictures are NOT stock photos.) USPS Shipping: $8.95 media mail shipping, $12.50 ground-advance mail shipping domestic US, or $16.50 medium priority mail box, or $110 international. (Canada buyers, shipping will be a bit less so send me a message if you're out of Canada.) I ship on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays sometimes on Friday. I do not ship on Mondays and Saturdays. IMPORTANT NOTE: All sales are generally FINAL. I do NOT accept returns because of buyer's remorse, "it was a gift but the recipient already had it", or "I found the same book at a better price", or "using my microscope I found a tiny mark on the back end-paper". I am selling collectible books, not new items. Selling prices are based on supply, demand, and condition. Returns are only accepted because of discrepancies regarding edition and/or condition of which I try to be very thorough in researching the edition/printing as well as describing ALL condition issues. So make sure you're 100% positive you desire one of my items before making a purchase. Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
