Antique Photos Mt Hood River Log Cabin Homestead Groff Weygandt Scholls Oregon. He later built a larger house in Hood River. Her father was George Perry Weygandt. Two daughters of Henry Groff are pictured in duplicate photos in this lot. They were Gladys and Sylvia Groff. Father, mother and Joseph Groff about 1903.". Lot of historic family photos from a family most recently living in Scholls, Oregon - an unincorporated community near Hillsboro, Oregon, but with a history in Hood River and Mt. Hood. The family name at the estate where these were found was Haynes. However, to the best of our knowledge based on research, the ancestors' names included Groff and Weygandt. Originally from the Midwest, it appears that Henry J. Groff acquired property somewhere near Hood River and built a log cabin. He later built a larger house in Hood River. His wife's name was Dora Arena Weygandt. Her father was George Perry Weygandt. The photo taken in Eugene, Oregon with three men is connected to the family, but we have not been able to identify them. Based on a caption on the back, they may be the father and uncles of Dora Arena Weygandt. Two daughters of Henry Groff are pictured in duplicate photos in this lot. They were Gladys and Sylvia Groff. The captions written on the backs of some of the photos were most likely written by one of the daughters. We do not know the large family shown in the photo with damage to the corners, but it may be Groffs or Weygandts. The snapshot of the two young girls would be Gladys and Sylvia on the back porch of the larger house that Henry Groff built in Hood River. The writing on the back of photo of the log cabin says: "John Groff Sr. homestead at Hood River. Father, mother and Joseph Groff about 1903." The duplicate photos of three children has writing on the back of one of them. It says "Dora Groff" and "Gladys, Sylvia & Betty Groff" Betty may have been a cousin. The photo of the larger house has the following written on the back: "This is the second home my darling Dad built after I was born. The bedroom I was born in is on the right side. This must have been built around 1904 or 1905. About eight miles from Mount Hood. Mother used to be ask [sic] to come up to Cloud Cap Inn and help out weekends to cook for the rich people from Portland and that would come up there over weekends." The photo with the large group of people has stamped on its bottom edge "W.D. Harper." No writing on the back. The photo of the three men says on the back: "The man on the left is my mother's father. The 1 in the middle was my mother's brother Pierce. The other one on right was her brother Lyman. Grandpa was a very healthy man and lived to be in 90 I think. Always ate a carrot a day. Had his own teeth. Never wore glasses." The photographer was Lare of Eugene, Oregon. One photo has corner damage. The log cabin photo is faint. The photo of the larger house has corner damage and paper chips. I have a liberal return policy.
