Description
Antique Japanese Ryūmon Porcelain Ewer Pitcher Geisha Scene Meiji 13.5”. Large cabinet piece of antique Japanese porcelain! Beautiful condition. Large cabinet piece of antique Japanese porcelain! Beautiful condition. **note: tureen in picture 3 is sold separately** Antique Japanese porcelain ewer (pitcher) dating to the late Meiji period, circa 1885–1910. This elegant tall-form ewer features a finely hand-painted geisha scene set within a soft landscape including trees, architecture, and natural elements. The painting style reflects traditional Japanese court life themes popular in export porcelain of the period. The upper rim and handle are richly decorated in iron-red (burnt orange) enamel with gold gilt accents. The body is finished in a softer palette with watercolor-style shading, creating a nice contrast between the ornate rim and the more delicate figural scene below. The piece is hand-painted with overglaze enamels and retains its original character, including subtle variations from the firing process typical of antique Japanese porcelain. The piece bears a hand-painted gold character mark, possibly reading as ‘Ryūmon (Dragon Gate),’ a decorator-style mark seen on Japanese export porcelain, though not definitively confirmed. This is a beautiful standalone display piece and a classic example of Japanese export porcelain from the Meiji era.
