South Salem 1:500 U.S. Essex Class Aircraft Carrier - ID Recognition Ship. Made in WWII to teach our military forces what friend and foe looked like at sea. Up for sale is a South Salem 1:500 U.S. Essex Class Aircraft Carrier - ID Recognition Ship. Made in WWII to teach our military forces what friend and foe looked like at sea. These ships came in (2) different scales: 1/1200 (student scale) and 1/500 (teacher scale). The teacher scale ships are rare because of their size and only a few teachers compared to students. This model is in nice condition. The ship is mostly made of wood except for the guns and a few of the tower pieces. The paint is in good condition but some inconsistencies on the flight deck. There are a few chips around the ship but very minor. The ship is missing (2) of its anti-aircraft guns at the back of the ship (see close up photo). There is one small piece of the deck lip that looks like it broke off at some point (see close up photo). Wouldn’t take much to repair if thats what the new owner wanted. The original board is in great condition but someone shortened it from its original length. Great rare piece.
