All three have been out of print for some time; all three have become collector's items. Miss Pym Disposes was published in 1948. While it received a unanimously enthusiastic press, it was impossible to predict at the time how extraordinarily successful this new writer's career would prove to be. With the appearance in 1949 of The Franchise Affair the caliber of Miss Tey's performance became more ap- parent, and Brat Farrar, in 1950, estab- lished her reputation once and for all. These first three books comprise the pre- sent volume. After Brat Farrar came To Love And Be Wise. The Daushter Of Time and The Singing Sands - each hailed as welcome additions to a trulv distinguished body of work. Then, tragically, Josephine Tey died. Since her untimely death two earlier books have been reissued: The Man In The Oueue and A Shilling For Candles. These eight books constitute a total out- put as distinctive and meritorious as any in the entire field of mystery fiction.
