Antique 19th C. Meiji Period Japanese Bronze Figure of Gama Sennin (Liu Hai). The Antique 19th Century ( Circa.1880s ) Meiji Period Japanese Bronze Figure of Gama Sennin, the Toad Immortal, Derived From the Chinese Daoist Immortal Figure 'Liu Hai'. The Figure is Shown in A Dynamic Forward Stepping Pose with Arms Extended, His Smiling Expression Conveying the Playful and Auspicious Character Traditionally Associated with this Subject. This Finely Cast Bronze Figure is Rendered in A Rich, Dark Patina, with Subtle Highlights Accentuating the Rhythmic Folds of the Flowing Robe and the Delicately Incised Decorative Borders. The Stylized Treatment of Figure Particularly the Expressive Face and Dynamic Moment Reflects the Distinctive Japanese Interpretation of Daoist Subjects, Popular During the Meiji Period.
