Vintage Rare/HTF Yellow Moon and Star Vaseline Uranium Glass Creamer/Small Pitcher - L. G. Wright Glass Co. A unique and HTF Yellow Moon and Star uranium glass creamer or small pitcher made for L. G. Wright Glass Co. Around the mid-1930s, a glassmaker named L. G. Wright noticed a renewed interest in pattern glassware. Wright worked out a way to commission several factories to produce some of the popular patterns from the late 1800’s. The L.G. Wright glass company never actually pressed any of their own glass items. Companies like L.E. Smith, Imperial, Fenton and more did the actual manufacturing work while L.G. Wright was noted as the maker. The L.G. Wright Company first produced the “Moon & Star” pattern in the mid to late 1930's. First identified in 1789 by a German chemist, James Powell’s Whitefriars glass company in London, England, was one of the first to market the glowing glass. The uranium was added for the fluorescent effect it created. It soon became incredibly popular and started to be manufactured across Europe and North America. Uranium glass was once made into tableware and household items, but fell out of widespread use when the availability of uranium to most industries was sharply curtailed and U.S. production of uranium glasses ceased in the middle years of World War II because of the government's confiscation of uranium supplies for the Manhattan Project from 1942 to 1958. According to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. A 2008 study from Nova University Lisbon determined that the radiation levels in uranium glass are comparable to those from many everyday activities, such as air travel or cellphone use. Eating off uranium glass poses minimal risks, according to Paul W. Frame, a senior health physicist at Oak Ridge Associated Universities, and no special treatment is required when disposing of it. The pitcher measures approx. 6 1/4" H at its highest point x 6 1/4" W (from handle to end of spout) x 3 1/2" top diameter. The pitcher holds approx. 1 1/3 cups. The creamer or pitcher is marked with the L.G. Wright mark, an underlined W within a circle. A picture of L. G. Wright marks are included. This piece is in excellent condition. This creamer/small pitcher really glows under UV light producing a brilliant green glow. A lovely vintage uranium glass collectable that will make a wonderful addition to any table setting and is certainly a conversation piece!
