Description

Amish Quilts of Lancaster County by Julie Silber Paperback Book. There are those who argue that in the rich jewel-like tones, austere simplicity of the geometric pat-terns, and elaborate stitching, the Amish quilt is the highest expression of the medium. For me, in their visual effect and the way they yield their secrets slowly, as the best art does, the quilts rival some of the most splendid works in any medium. We are thus particularly grateful to Doug Tompkins, co-founder of Esprit who developed and refined the collection and generously made it available to the museum. With Juli Silber, curator of the Esprit collection and co-curator of the exhibition, he has selected over sixty of finest Amish quilts from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
