Vintage Genuine Alabaster Hand Carved Italy Trinket Box Floral Hinged Lid. The alabaster retains its smooth polished finish with beautiful natural veining. The brass hinge functions properly. Beautiful hand-carved genuine alabaster box in a traditional powder puff / bonbonnière form. Beautiful hand-carved genuine alabaster box in a traditional powder puff / bonbonnière form. The stone features a soft creamy, milky-yellow tone with natural cloud-like veining throughout the body and lid. The top is decorated with a transfer-ware rose in muted sepia and earthy tones, a highly recognizable export design from mid-century Italy. The polished brass-tone rim and hinge connect the lid securely to the base and add a refined contrast to the organic stone texture. The original gold foil label on the underside reads: “Genuine Alabaster, Hand Carved, Made in Italy.” Mid-century examples like this were widely produced between the 1950s–1970s, especially in the renowned alabaster region of Volterra, Italy. CONDITION Very good vintage condition. The alabaster retains its smooth polished finish with beautiful natural veining. The lid shows subtle gray to charcoal tonal variation, which is a natural characteristic of genuine alabaster stone and not damage. The brass hinge functions properly. On the base, there is a faint “ghost” mark of a handwritten number (appears to be a 3), likely from an old price written in marker that has since faded.
