Richly illustrated with color plates and black and white illustrations, Barber from the first chapter - The Welsh Tradition, through the Victorian image of the Legends, to the last chapter - The Twentieth Century, shares a wonderful collection of the literature and art that defined the history of a legend. Richard William Barber (1941 - ) is a British historian who has long specialized in Arthurian legend. He has published several books about medieval history and literature. In 1969 he founded the Boydell Press, which later became Boydell & Brewer Ltd., a publisher in medieval studies. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1971. Condition: Beautiful mahogany cloth boards are protected by a decorative glossy unclipped price dustjacket that is illustrated with medieval art front and rear. The jacket is in very nice condition with light rubbing but no wear or damage. Hardbound boards and spine are in excellent condition with no wear nor cosmetic blemishes. The spine back strip has silver text blinded stamped of the title, author, and publisher, that is bright and in excellent condition. Corners are sharp with no bumping or wear. The spine has a slight slant to the front cover, but hinges are firmly attached with no cracking to the decorative endpapers. The text block is solid. Interior pages are in very good condition with no chips, cracks and nor any previous owner marks. 224 pages including bibliography and illustrations. Dimensions: H – 9-1/4” W – 8”
