Art Nouveau Champagne / Wine Cooler – Possibly WMF, Geislingen, c. 1905 Origin: Possibly WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), Geislingen, Germany Period: Art Nouveau / Jugendstil, circa 1905 Material: Silver-plated metal (spelter) Condition: Antique – excellent, commensurate with age and use Description Beautiful and sculptural Art Nouveau champagne or wine cooler , possibly produced by WMF, Geislingen , around 1905 . The piece is executed in silver-plated metal (spelter) and features a cylindrical body with a conical wall , rising over a pronounced bulge ring and terminating in a softly arched, flared lip . The walls are richly decorated in continuous high-relief , depicting an evocative Rhine region landscape , animated by architecture, foliage, and flowing terrain. Dominating the composition is a semi-plastic female figure , shown standing in profile before a vine , a classic Jugendstil allegory symbolizing nature, fertility, and wine culture. The modeling is fluid and expressive, with beautifully rendered drapery and a strong sense of movement. Although no visible maker’s marks are present, the quality of casting, the subject matter, and the sculptural treatment are consistent with WMF production from the early 20th century .
