(3) This CD is a "Two-on-One" compilation of two classic jazz albums by June Christy: "Ballads for Night People" (originally released in 1959) and "The Intimate Miss Christy" (originally released in 1963). This lot of 4 USED CDs includes: 1) "Something Cool" by jazz vocalist June Christy, recorded with Pete Rugolo and His Orchestra. Released on Capitol Records, "Something Cool" is considered a landmark of the "cool jazz" movement. It was first issued in 1954 as a 10-inch mono LP with seven tracks, followed by an expanded 11-track 12-inch version in 1955. In 1960, Christy and Rugolo re-recorded the entire album in stereo to take advantage of new audio technology; this later version became the most commonly available one for decades. 1991 Reissue: Contains 24 tracks, featuring the original 1955 mono recordings plus 13 additional singles and rarities. The album is known for its sophisticated arrangements by Pete Rugolo and Christy's "icy" yet soulful vocal tone. Featured songs include: "Something Cool" "Midnight Sun" "Lonely House" "It Could Happen to You" "I Should Care". 2) "This Time of Year", a 1961 Christmas-season release by American jazz vocalist June Christy. Arranged and conducted by Pete Rugolo, it is notable for consisting entirely of original holiday songs written by the husband-and-wife team of Connie Pearce and Arnold Miller. This is a 2005 CD reissue by Collector’s Choice Music, which marked the album's first appearance on the CD format. Original Release: 1961 (Capitol Records). The arrangements for Recalls Those Kenton Days were handled by Pete Rugolo, who also conducted the band.
