Description
The Red Book of Views of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. What does remain from many of the fairs and expositions are the official publications, like this small book “The Red Book of Views of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition” published in 1915 by Robert A. Reid the Official Exposition View Book Publisher. Since 1851 there have been over 100 World Fairs (or international expositions outside the US) that have been held in 20 countries, but often little remains of these events as they were built to be temporary. The Panama-Pacific International Exposition was held in 1915 in San Fransico and only one major structure still stands on its original site: the Palace of Fine Arts. Most of the 650-scre fairgrounds were constructed of temporary materials and demolished in 1915, the iconic Palace of Fine Arts was completely reconstructed in concrete in the 1960’s. What does remain from many of the fairs and expositions are the official publications, like this small book “The Red Book of Views of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition” published in 1915 by Robert A. Reid the Official Exposition View Book Publisher. After the overview of the exposition what follows is a book of black and white photographs that capture the international scope, the domestic participation, and the numerous courts of The Universe and Of Abundance, plus all of the palaces of: Fine Arts, Horticulture, Education and Social Economy, Liberal Arts, Varied Industries, Food Products, Transportation and Mines and Metals, Machinery, and the courts and avenues. No wonder it could takes days, or even a week, to visit all the major pavilions. Condition: A small oblong book with a red cardboard cover with the title in gold gilt and an image from the fair in black. The text is faded and difficult to read but black silhouette is clear (or as clear as when it was published on a red background). The front board has three creases on the top corner and light creasing at the spine. The rear board has fading at the spine and slight blemishes with one water spot. Corners are rounded with wear. The cover has pulled away from the stapled text block on the front and rear but is held tightly to the spine. While the staples are rusted all the pages are firmly attached.
