Won the 1st Japan Folk Crafts Museum Award in 1947 for his stencil-printed woodblock series The Story of Ruth. Received the Kokuga Award in 1948 for The Story of Ruth. Awarded the Japan Print Institute Arts and Sciences Award in 1956 for The Quail and the Girl. Exhibited The Bronze Serpent at the "Contemporary Japanese Print Exhibition" hosted by St. James Church, New York in 1958, winning First Prize. 1971: Awarded First Prize at the Intermedia World Christmas Card Competition. 1981: Awarded an honorary degree from Linfield College. 1987: Awarded an honorary degree from Valparaiso University.
