Leslie Brooke **Leonard Leslie Brooke (1862–1940) was a British artist and writer who was born on 24 September 1862, in Birkenhead, England. His skillful and witty illustrations in Andrew Lang's Nursery Rhyme Book (1897) established his reputation as a leading children's book illustrator of pen-and-ink line drawings and watercolors. There is no copyright date anywhere in the pages that I could see. From other research, I believe that this book is a 1905 copyright. It is DEFINITELY OLD!! The goose at the beginning of the line of animals on the cover is a gold color while the rest of the characters are printed in dark blue. This fine old book is in very good shape for its age. As you can probably tell from the first picture, the cover on the spine is partially torn. (It's all present though!) There is a stain on the front beneath the illustrator's name and the back cover shows some discoloration. The cover page has worn through near the right edge into a "lacy" pattern. (Please see the third picture.) At the beginning of the section of The Three Bears , that section of the book has separated from the binding, but all the pages are still attached to one another.
