Description
RARE 1986 Canadian $2 Banknote Bank Of Canada. CONDITION: UNCIRCULATED PRESTIGE. Printing of the $2 note ceased on Feb, 18 1996 , with initial release of the toonie, a coin that replaced it. These notes are seldom seen in circulation today (In Alberta, they were seldom seen even prior to 1996, and considered unlucky/evil where the toonie became common). 1986 series, Birds of Canada (Robins). The Birds of Canada series was designed with security features to counter the colour photocopiers of that era. Of note was the introduction of an optical security device (a metallic patch that shifts from gold to green) and larger portraits that facilitated viewing the fine-line work in the face and hair. As part of the fight against money laundering and organized crime, the $2.00 denomination was withdrawn for circulation in 2000. Giclee Display Art Card.
