The Los Angeles Angels were the California Angels before they moved to Anaheim in 1965. In their first year as an expansion team the Angels as expected finished eighth. In only their second season the Angels put together a winning record and finished third with an 86–76 record behind rookie pictures Dean Chance and Bo Belinski. When major-league baseball granted Gene Autry an American league franchise in Southern California, the Los Angeles Angels were born. Actually, the team was named after a disbanded minor-league team from the Pacific Coast league, in whose field they played. When a new stadium was built in Anaheim in 1965, the club was renamed the California Angels. This design was born on the 1971–72 uniforms. Condition is brand new, never worn, very slightly shopworn interior. Please check pictures and ask for details if concerned. Size 7 3/8. Hat #3 (right) - CA insignia front, Halo Top, Fitted back. California Angels 1965–1970. This is the first cap worn by the California Angels after moving to Anaheim from Los Angeles. The cap kept the same silver halo that was on the LA Angels cap. The cap was worn by Alex Johnson in 1970 when he beat out the Red Sox Carl Yastrzemski by a fraction of a point to win the batting crown with A .329 average.
