Description
You are bidding on one lot of 6 VERY AS-IS irons or blades or cutters for a Stanley Number 10 or 10-1/2 or similar wood plane as pictured. There are lots of condition issues, including many are quite short as can be seen, and one has been welded together, so please keep reading down to the condition discussion for each iron. Included are, left to right (they stay in the same order for the individual pictures) --- an iron marked "STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO". Dimensions are width of the sharp edge about 2-1/8", length remaining of the sharp edge including the bevel about a 32nd over 5/16", and overall length about 6-7/16". Condition, other than the short length and owner marking, is fair, with lots of patina (color) and rust and some scattered light pitting on both sides, mostly above the bottom of the slot. There are some file marks below and to the right of the STANLEY marking, including a V filed into the edge. --- an iron marked with the early style of the STANLEY sweetheart logo (top of heart raised up into the rectangle) and "MADE IN USA" right below that. It also has what looks like two V's filed into the edge to the right of the logo. Dimensions are width of the sharp edge about a 32nd under 2-1/8", length remaining of the sharp edge including the bevel about .210" on one side and about .230" on the other side, or a little under 7/32" on one side and a little over 7/32" on the other side, and overall length about 6-5/16". Condition of the iron, other than the short length and the owner marking, is actually good, with some patina (color) and light rust on both sides mostly towards the upper ends, and there is a tiny tiny chip in one lower corner. It has some very slight waviness if you sight down the edges. --- an iron marked "STANLEY NEW BRITAIN CONN USA" in the V shaped logo. Dimensions are width of the sharp edge about a 32nd under 2-1/8", length remaining of the sharp edge including the bevel about .220" or about 7/32" on both sides, and overall length about 6-1/4". Condition other than the short length is poor to fair, with lots of pitting, much of that pitting is near the sharp edge, and the upper end is peened over. --- a WELDED or REPAIRED iron marked with the later style of the STANLEY sweetheart logo (top of heart is flush with the bottom of the rectangle) and "MADE IN USA" right below that. Dimensions are width of the sharp edge about 2-1/16", length remaining of the sharp edge including the bevel about 13/16", and overall length about 6-7/8". The blade has been welded or brazed onto the body of the iron as shown, and the length of the blade was built up by adding material to the upper corners of the blade portion of the iron. There are lots of little voids in the repaired area. The iron is quite bowed if you sight down the edges. Condition is otherwise fair, with lots of grind marks in and below the repaired area, and lots of little "speckles" of light rust and very light pitting above the bottom of the keyhole. --- an unmarked iron that appears to have been cut off at the upper end as the slot goes nearly to the upper edge. Dimensions are width of the sharp edge a hair under 2-1/8", length remaining of the sharp edge including the bevel about 13/16 " on one side and about 7/8" on the other side, and overall length about 6-15/16". There is a tiny chip in one lower corner, some odd grinding marks at the bottom of the keyhole on both sides, and some deep scratches along one edge near the upper end. Condition is otherwise good, with dark patina (color) above the chip breaker line, more scattered patina below that, and a few scattered little spots of light pitting. The slot on this iron is much longer than most. --- and an unmarked iron. I keep looking but nothing will appear. Dimensions are width of the sharp edge about 2-1/8", length remaining of the sharp edge including the bevel about 1-1/16 " on both sides, and overall length about 7-1/8". Condition is poor to fair, with lots of rust and pitting mostly in the lower half of the iron on both sides including some very dark rust, and lighter pitting in the upper half on both sides. All that is included are the 6 irons. No other parts and no chip breakers are included. The winner gets all 6 irons. SHIPPING: 2 pounds when boxed, shipped US Postal Service Ground Advantage, insurance is included. No International shipping. l sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and I enjoy photography! The queue is overflowing with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them. So please keep watching my postings as I have LOTS more to list! Searching my listings: I have lots to see! Some of you will undoubtedly enjoy browsing through everything, but if you want to hone in on something specific, I suggest you click on the "Visit Store" link in Seller Information section in the upper right of this listing. That will lead you to my extensive system of categories. How to subscribe to my eBay newsletter? Every Friday eBay sends out my newsletter featuring 10 of my most interesting new listings. To subscribe, click the VISIT STORE to go to my eBay store and then click on the heart symbol that is labeled SAVE SELLER. That will automatically get you on the mailing list for the newsletters. They are free, and you can unsubscribe at any time. ETHICS IN DESCRIPTIONS: I also buy for my collecting on eBay, and I have been burned too many times by misleading (duh did I forget to mention .......) descriptions, and auctions with pictures only of the left side because the right side was trashed. Life is much simpler for me if I disclose what I know or see about an item before you bid, and especially before you receive it in the mail. I come from the handshake school of doing business, and hopefully you are like me and understand what that means. What goes around, comes around. RETURN POLICY: I believe that if you give honest descriptions, and include enough pictures, you shouldn't need a return policy. However, that doesn't mean that I won't make an occasional mistake. Please bid with the assurance that if I have made an error in my listing, I WILL take care of you. And if you have made an error, and bought the wrong size, for example, I will still take care of you (but I’ll let you pay the return shipping!). USPS POSTAGE RATE INCREASES: I use the Post Office for everything, and yes, the shipping charges just keep going up and up. The Post Office now has several prices increases during each year, raising a few things but not everything at each increase. And they now raise their rates during the Holidays, which means early October to late January. Their big increases are in January, timed to start at the end of the Holiday rates, and this year is no exception. And it's not just the postage rates, the insurance charges and the delivery signature charges have also gone up. There is now a surcharge for Priority Mail packages over 20" long, and another for Priority Mail packages over 30" long, because those longer packages won't fit in their automatic machines. And the Post Office has discontinued the Regional Flat Rate boxes, which were often less expensive for certain sizes and weights. I try to pick the best shipping option for each listing, based both on what is the least expensive and on what I think is needed to protect the item. If the value is $250 or over, eBay requires your signature at delivery for the buyer and seller protections to be in effect. SALES TAX: Interstate sales tax is now the reality on all the major selling websites including eBay. If I ship to a state where eBay is required to collect sales tax, eBay will charge you the sales tax for your location. There is lots of information available from eBay that explains it in much more detail. The sales tax is completely out of my hands -- I don't have anything to do with deciding whether to charge tax, I don't have anything to do with deciding the tax rate, and I never see any of the funds that are collected, they go directly to eBay. SELLING OUTSIDE OF EBAY: Why would I risk my lengthy good standing with eBay to save you a couple of dollars? Especially when you ask on an email that is sent through the eBay email system? Please don't ask, the answer is no. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: I no longer ship Internationally other than Canada. If you are in Canada, ask for what the shipping would cost, but be prepared for it to be $$$$$. AUCTIONS: I won’t end an auction listing early to sell it to you directly. As a bidder, I really dislike going back at the end of an auction to bid, only to discover that the seller had ended the auction early. So I won’t do that for you, or to you. PACKAGING: Please check my feedback -- I package well. I figure if you take the time to purchase from me, then I can take the time to package it well, and not just throw it into a cereal box with a scrap of newspaper. I hope someday I will meet some of you as we trudge the happy road of tool collecting!
