Fine Cunard Sterling Silver RMS “Laconia”Circa 1921 Gold washed spoon, in excellent pre owned condition, the markings on back side of spoon the anchor (Birmingham), lion facing left means (sterling). This spoon is steeped in war time history. The Cunard line RMS Laconia was sunk by Nazi Submarine Captain Werner Hartenstein aboard the German submarine U-156 in September 1942. He was forced to abandon his attempt to rescue the Laconia survivors as they were being attacked by a US B-24 Liberator Bomber. This was later to become known as “The Laconia Incident”.
