Launch Control Nuclear Missile PHOTO Minuteman ICBM Silo Whiteman AFB Missouri. By order of President George H. W. Bush, they were taken off alert status ending service as an active ICBM facility. Under the START I treaty, the missiles were removed and the sites destroyed. The first silo was imploded on December 8, 1993 and the last on December 15, 1997. 5x7 inch photograph. Minuteman II missile launch control console (Commander's Console) at the facility at Whiteman AFB in Knob Knoster, Missouri. By order of President George H. W. The Air Force removed the 150 Minuteman II missiles from service and all operations were inactivated on July 28, 1995. Under the START I treaty, the missiles were removed and the sites destroyed.
