Description
This orchid is developing a bud ( see the last picture). Stanhopea is a genus of the orchid family from Mexico and Centeal America. It’s pollinated by a small make Euglossine bee. In ark Salvador , this species found I. Intermediate and warm areas from 700 to 1200 m elevation, flowering from may to august. The flowers are 4” across with wish green or creamy white with red spots with golden yellow at the base of the petals and bright white and orange lip. The genus is named for the 4th Earl of Stanhope ( Phillip Henry Stanhope), president of the Medico-Botanical Society of London. It’s comprises 55 species and 5 natural hybrids. These epiphytic, but occasionally terrestrial orchids can be found in damp foreTheir pseudobulbs carry from the top one elliptic leaf. Stanhopea flowers, spectacular, fragrant and short-lived. Their pendant inflorescences are noted for flowering out of the bottom of the containers in which they grow. You are bidding on manure, previously bloomed. It has been re-potted into brand new 6” pot and has many new roots and new growths and roots. It’s a sign that plant acclimated really well. This particular orchid has over 20 mature bulbs and 5-6 new growths. Huge plant!!! It will be shipped via Priority mail.
