This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting ticket sales for the opening of the Original Broadway production of the ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER and TIM RICE musical "JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR" at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York City. (The production played thirteen previews beginning September 27th, 1971, officially opened October 12th, 1971 and ran for 711 performances.) ..... The musical starred JEFF FENHOLT in the title role, YVONNE ELLIMAN as "Mary Magdalene" and BEN VEREEN as "Judas Iscariot" and the cast included BARRY DENNEN, PAUL AINSLEY, BOB BINGHAM, CHARLOTTE CROSSLEY, TED NEELEY (who would star as "Jesus" in the 1973 film adaptation), SAMUEL E. WRIGHT, ANITA MORRIS and RANDALL'S ISLAND ..... This single page, two-sided handbill measures 5 7/8" X 9" inches and includes wonderful graphics, production credits and partial cast list on the front and a "Variety" review from the Pittsburgh concert performance, ticket prices, performance dates and times and a ticket order from on the backside ..... CONDITION: With the exception of minor creasing at the top and light soiling to the ticket order form, this rare flyer is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
