Black massaranduba is an evergreen tree with a large, roundish crown. It grows from 10 - 25 meters tall with a straight, cylindrical bole 40 - 70cm in diameter. The plant produces a berry containing 1- 2 hard seeds enclosed in a sweet, succulent pulp. This is a very rare specie, found rarely in the wild. Those that have tasted the fruit loved it, it is usually only consumed out of hand The fruit is 3cm in diameter.
