Pair of Original Antique Harper's Magazine Print Ads ~ 1914 ~ THE HARTFORD FIRE INSURANCE COMPANY ~ Beautiful frame-worthy prints of their classic majestic stag mascot! FUN FACT (thanks to The Hartford's news release article printed March 28, 2019) " Although it is unknown exactly when the iconic symbol first appeared as The Hartford’s logo, the earliest use on record is on the 1861 policy issued to Abraham Lincoln. It depicts a hart ford ing (a deer crossing) a stream. The company’s logo was likely inspired by the seal of the city of Hartford, which in turn borrowed from the 17 th century of Hertford England. By 1867, the logo began to echo the majestic stag depicted in Sir Edwin Landseer’s 1851 painting, “The Monarch of the Glen.” The logo art and style have continued to shift throughout the years to adjust to the changing art and print needs, however, the Buck remains a clear descendant of the “Monarch of the Glen.” full page ads approx. 6 3/4" x 9 3/4" in GREAT condition for age! minor edge/corner wear/tear and small staple holes from original magazine binding from smoke-free home ENJOY! & Thanks for stoppin' and shoppin'! - Kari :o) SHIPPING NOTES: FAST shipping is always a TOP PRIORITY!
