One day in the not-too-distant future, travelers on Interstate Highway 10 will be whizzing eastward and westward over these piers, built for the highway's $3 million bridge over the Industrial Canal. When this picture was made, however, the only persons above the piers were three deliberately moving, 135-feet-up workmen. As with so many projects in a city as big as New Orleans, the contrast in size between men and the product of their labors dramatically demonstrates the power that mind can exert over matter, flesh and blood exert over steel and concrete.
