Aksyonov (1932-2009) was a member of the "youth prose" group of Soviet writers in the 1960s and later became a prominent dissident writer. His best known novels are Ticket to the Stars (1961), The Burn (1975), and Generations of Winter (1994). He spent over two decades in the United States and taught Russian literature at George Mason University in Virginia. While Our Golden Ironburg (also known as Our Golden Piece of Metal ) is a lesser work, it is nevertheless a fine example of Aksyonov's satirical writings. All proceeds benefit the Lancaster County (PA) Public Library.
