Organic Sorrel Bloody Dock Seeds Medicinal Herb Non-GMO Stunning plant with elongated, medium green leaves, exquisitely veined in a brilliant burgundy-purple. A hardy perennial, it quickly forms an attractive clump, which sends up red flower-clusters in early summer, followed by brown seed heads. An excellent, deer-resistant accent plant. Beautiful to look at and easy to grow, takes shade but does even better in full sun. When used as a vegetable, only the tender young leaves are edible raw, with a flavor like spinach or chard with a hint of lemony tartness. The young leaves can also be cooked as for spinach or chard. A beautiful plant to add to borders while providing a wee bit oxalic acid/lemony greens to the occasional salad. The root has laxative, alternative and mildly tonic action, and can be freely used as a tonic and laxative in rheumatism. Externally it is used as an application for eruptive and scorbutic ulcers and sores, being employed for cleansing ulcers in affections of the mouth, etc. As a powder, it has cleansing and detergent effect upon the teeth.
