In addition, we’ve added a brief excerpt from “Alabama, a Guide to the Deep South," a WPA guide, first published in 1941. The history covers these communities: Ardilla, Ashford, Avon, Brannon Stand, Columbia, Cottonwood, Cowarts, Dothan, Gordon, Grangeburg, Harmon, Hodgesville. Kinsey, Madrid. Pansey, Rehobeth, Smyrna, Taylor, Webb and Wicksburg. Other subjects include: Economic Development (with many names of people and businesses mentioned), Early citizens and officials, political developments, churches and schools, social problems and reforms.
