Large Original Antique Press Photo Pre Excavation Mayan Ruins Chichen Itza 1920. La Iglesia was one of the earlier Mayan temples prior to the Toltec influence period. The photo shows an archaeologist with a Mayan native assistant taking notes or making drawings of the Puuc style frieze carvings on the face of the temple. In the distance on the right you can see the ruins of the temple at the end of the enormous ball court. This is a rare early historical archaeology photo in large format. These antique press photos are really quite collectible for genres as the provenance is on the reverse side of the photo. I purchased as many of these early archaeological exploration photos as I could when they were first on the market, one of a kind and rare.
